In accordance with Census 2011 there are 81,127,740 Telugu speakers in India covering 6,70 % of the country's total population.
The major share of Telugu speakers is in the states of:
- Andhra Pradesh - आंध्र प्रदेश and Telangana (87.11 %, 83.55 % of the states population),
- Tamil Nadu - तमिलनाडु (5.22 %) and
- Karnataka - कर्नाटक (4.40 %).
Among the districts of Andhra Pradesh, the highest proportion of Telugu Sspeakers are found in:
- East Godavari - पूर्व गोदावरी (98.32 %),
- West Godavari - पश्चिम गोदावरी (96.97 %),
- Vizianagaram - विजियनगरम (96.33 %),
- Prakasam - प्रकाशम (93.40 %),
- Srikakulam - श्रीकाकुलम (92.32 %),
- Krishna - कृष्णा (92.10 %),
- Karimnagar (91.67 %) and
- Visakhapatnam - विशाखापट्नम (91.61 %).
Significant proportion of Telugu speakers is also noticed in Chikkaballapura - चिक्कबल्लापुरा (27.07 %), Kolar - कोलार (22.67 %), Bangalore - बेंगलूरू (13.99 %), Bangalore Rural - बेंगलूरू ग्रामीण (12.84 %) and Bellary - बल्लारी (9.68%), In Tamil Nadu in Krishnagiri - कृष्णगिरि (21.56 %), Coimbatore - कोयम्बत्तूर (16.32 %) and Theni - थेनी (12.75 %), and in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in South Andaman - दक्षिण अण्डमान (17.67 %) and North and Middle Andaman - उत्तर और मध्य अण्डमान (6.47 %).
