In accordance with Census 2011 there are 83,968 Kuki speakers in India covering 0,01 % of the country's total population and there are 229,340 Thado speakers in India covering 0,02 % of the country's total population.
Kuki speakers are distributed in:
- Manipur - मणिपुर (37,805 with 1.32 % of the state's population),
- Assam - असम (22,327),
- Nagaland - नगालैंड (18,392),
- Tripura - त्रिपुरा (1,693),
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (1,367),
- Delhi - दिल्ली (296),
- Mizoram - मिजोरम (295) and
- Maharashtra - महाराष्ट्र (273.
Thado speakers are concentrated in:
- Manipur - मणिपुर (223,779 with 8.71 % of the state's population),
- Assam - असम (2,540),
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (1,082),
- Mizoram - मिजोरम (476),
- Andhra Pradesh - आंध्र प्रदेश (361) and
- Uttar Pradesh - उतार प्रदेश। (197).
Among the districts in Manipur, the highest proportion of Kuki speakers is noticed in:
- Senapati - सेनापति (20,816),
- Churachandpur - चुराचान्दपुर (5,586),
- Ukhrul - उखरूल (3,075),
- Imphal East - इम्फाल पूर्व (2,553),
- Chandel - चान्देल (2,407),
- Imphal West - इम्फाल पश्चिम (1,632),

- Bishnupur - बिष्णुपुर (211).
Among the districts in Manipur, the number of Thado speakers is the highest in:

Outside Manipur, significant number of Kuki speakers are recorded in Assam in Dima Hasao - दीमा हसाव (10,940), Karbi Anglong - कार्बी आंग्लंग (9,783), Cachar - कछार (995) and Kamrup Metropolitan - कामरूप महानगर (196), in Nagaland in Peren - पेरेन (9,666), Dimapur - दीमापुर(7,549) and Kohima - कोहिमा (637), in Tripura in West Tripura - पश्चिम त्रिपुरा (690), South Tripura - दक्षिण त्रिपुरा (357), Dhalai - धलाई (351) and North Tripura - उत्तर त्रिपुरा (295), in Meghalaya in East Khasi Hills - ईस्ट खासी हिल्स (1,149) and Ribhoi - रिभोइ (183), in NTC of Delhi South West - दक्षिण पश्चिम (185), in Punjab in Gurdaspur - गुरदासपुर (151) and in Uttar Pradesh Lucknow - लखनऊ (127).
Outside Manipur, Thado is not spoken significantly in any State/UT. However, a good number of Thado speakers is recorded in Assam in Dima Hasao - दीमा हसाव (1,854), Cachar - कछार (354) and Karbi Anglong - कार्बी आंग्लंग (128); in Meghalaya in Jaintia Hills - जैन्तिया हिल्स (800) and East Khasi Hills - ईस्ट खासी हिल्स (261); in Andhra Pradesh in Anantapur - अनंतपुर (and Sri Sathya Sai)(330); in Mizoram in Aizawl - आईज़ोल (134); in Uttar Pradesh in Kheri - खीरी (184) and in Ngaland in Dimapur - दीमापुर (130).
