In accordance with Census 2011 there are 2,772,264 Sindhi speakers in India covering 0,23 % of the country's total population.
The major share of Sindhi speakers is found in the states of:
- Gujarat - गुजरात (42.71%), 1.96 % of the state's population),
- Maharashtra - महाराष्ट्र (26.11 %),
- Rajasthan - राजस्थान (13.94 %),
- Madhya Pradesh - मध्य प्रदेश (8.84 %),
- Chhattisgarh - छत्तीसगढ (3.37 %),
- Delhi - दिल्ली (1.12 %) and
- Uttar Pradesh - उतार प्रदेश। (1.04 %).
Among the 9 districts in Gujarat, the highest proportion of Sindhi speakers is found in:
- Kachchh - कच्छ (34.92 %),
- Jamnagar - जामनगर (6.28 %),
- Ahmadabad - अहमदाबाद (1.79 %) and
- Porbandar - पोरबंदर (1.06 %).
Significant proportion of Sindhi speakers outside Gujarat is also noticed in Rajasthan in Barmer - बाड़मेर (3.99 %) and Jaisalmer - जैसलमेर (2.56 %), Ajmer - अजमेर (1.85 %),Jaipur - जयपुर (1.21 %), and Kota - कोटा (1.12 %).
