In accordance with Census 2011 there are 59,154 Wancho speakers in India covering 0,005 % of the country's total population.
Wancho speakers are concentrated in:
- Arunachal Pradesh - अरुणाचल प्रदेश (58,450 with 4.22 % of the state's population),
- Assam - असम (345) and
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (105).
Among the districts in Arunachal Pradesh, Wancho speakers are the highest in:
- Tirap - तिराप (56,925),
- Changlang - चांगलांग (770),
- Papum Pare - पापुम पारे (335 and
- Lohit - लोहित (174).
Outside Arunachal Pradesh, Wancho is not much spoken in any State/UT. However, they are recorded in Assam in Sivasagar (303) and in Meghalaya in East Khasi Hills - ईस्ट खासी हिल्स (103).
