In accordance with Census 2011 there are 66,852 Chang speakers in India covering 0,01 % of the country's total population.
Chang speakers are mainly concentrated in:
- Nagaland - नगालैंड (65,632 with 3.32 % of the state's population),
- Arunachal Pradesh - अरुणाचल प्रदेश (762),
- Assam - असम (125) and
- Bihar - बिहार (123).
Among the districts in Nagaland, the highest number of Chang speakers is noticed in:
- Tuensang - त्युएनसांग ((59,979),
- Mokokchung - मोकोकचुंग (2,777),
- Dimapur - दीमापुर (1,789) and
- Kohima - कोहिमा (762).
Outside Nagaland, Chang is not spoken significantly in any State/UT. Chang speakers is available in Tirap - तिराप (706).
