In accordance with Census 2011 there are 40,835 Limbu speakers in India covering 0,003 % of the country's total population.
Limbu speakers are mainly concentrated in:
- Sikkim - सिक्किम (38,733 with 6.34 % of the state's population),
- West Bengal - पश्चिम बंगाल (921),
- Assam - असम (780),
- Manipur - मणिपुर (169) and
- Arunachal Pradesh - अरुणाचल प्रदेश (120).
Among the districts in Sikkim, Limbu speakers are available in:
- West District - पश्चिम जिला (25,357),
- South District - दक्षिण जिला (5,249),
- East District - पूर्व जिला (4,408) and
- North District - उत्तर जिला (3,719).
Outside Sikkim, Limbu is spoken in West Bengal in Darjiling - दार्जिलिंग (640) and Jalpaiguri - जलपाईगुड़ी (278), in Assam in Tinsukia - तिनसुकिया (476) and Udalguri - उदालगुड़ी (120) and in Manipur in Senapati - सेनापति (164).
