Kharia speakers are mainly concentrated in:
- Jharkhand - झारखंड (140,148 with 0.42 % of the state's population),
- Odisha - ओडिशा (126,872 with 0.30 % of the state's population),
- Assam - असम ((8,921),
- West Bengal - पश्चिम बंगाल (6,876),
- Chhattisgarh - छत्तीसगढ (6,492),
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands - अंडमान व नोकोबार द्वीप समूह (4,069) and
- Bihar - बिहार (1,600).
Among the districts in Jharkhand, the highest number of Kharia speakers is registered in:
- Simdega - सिमडेगा (92,600),
- Gumla - गुमला (38,260),
- Purbi Singhbhum - पूर्वी सिंहभूम (3,931),
- Ranchi - रांची (2,464) and
- Pashchimi Singhbhum - पश्चिमी सिंहभूम (2,464).
Among the districts in Odisha, the highest number of Kharia speakers is registered in:
- Sundargarh - सुन्दरगढ़ (91,732),
- Sambalpur - सम्बलपुर (15,555),
- Jharsuguda - झारसुगुडा (10,800),
- Mayurbhanj - मयूरभंज (5,439),
- Debagarh - देबगढ़ (1,096) and
- Bargarh - बरगढ़ (1,090).
Outside Jharkhand and Odisha, Kharia speakers are significant in West Bengal in Jalpaiguri - जलपाईगुड़ी (3,939), Puruliya - पुरूलिया (941) and Paschim Medinipur - पश्चिम मेदिनीपुर (596) in Assam in Golaghat - गोलाघाट (3,850), Karbi Anglong - कार्बी आंग्लंग (1,644) and Sonitpur - सोनितपुर (945), in Chhattisgarh in Jashpur - जशपुर (3,723) and Raigarh - रायगढ़ (2,297), in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in North and Middle Andaman - उत्तर और मध्य अण्डमान (2,181) and South Andaman - दक्षिण अण्डमान (1,696).
