In accordance with Census 2011 there are 1,860,236 Khandeshi speakers in India covering 0,15 % of the country's total population.
Khandeshi speakers are mainly concentrated in the states in:
- Maharashtra - महाराष्ट्र (86.91 %, 1.44 % of the state's population) and
- Gujarat - गुजरात (8.92 %).
In Maharashtra, the highest number of Khandeshi speakers are registered in:
- Dhule - धुले (28.70 %),
- Jalgaon - जलगांव (12.15 %),
- Nandurbar - नंदुरबार (8.84%) and
- Nashik - नाशिक (5.74 %).
Apart from Maharashtra and Gujarat, significant number of Khandeshi speakers are registered in Madhya PradeSh in Barwani - बड़वानी (2.10 %), Burhanpur - बुरहानपुर (0.62 %), Neemuch - नीमच and Sehore - सीहोर(0.01 %) and in Jammu & KaShmir Ganderbal - गान्दरबल (1.53 %) and Ramban - रामबन (1.38 %).
