In accordance with Census 2011 there are 1,431,344 Khasi speakers in India covering 0,12 % of the country's total population.
Khasi speakers are concentrated in:
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (96.57 %, 46.59 % of the state's population),
- Assam - असम ((2.92 %) and
- Jammu and Kashmir - जम्मू और कश्मीर and Tripura - त्रिपुरा (0.09% each).
In Meghalaya, the highest number of Khasi speakers are registered in :
- Jaintia Hills - जैन्तिया हिल्स (95.22 %),
- East Khasi Hills - ईस्ट खासी हिल्स (75.14 %),
- Ribhoi - रिभोइ (67.96 %) and
- West Khasi Hills - वेस्ट खासी हिल्स (54.42 %).
Apart from Meghalaya and Assam, significant number of Khasi speakers are registered in Mizoram in Kolasib - कोलासिब (0.65 %) and Mamit - मामित (0.05 %), in Nagaland in Kiphire - कीफिरे (0.51 %) and Kohima - कोहिमा (0.04 %).
