In accordance with Census 2011 there are 116,542 Gangte speakers in India covering 0,001 % of the country's total population.
Gangte speakers are distributed in:
- Manipur - मणिपुर (15,274 with 0.53 % of the state's population),
- Mizoram - मिजोरम (705) and
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (281).
Among the districts in Manipur, the highest number of Gangte speakers are reported in:
- Churachandpur - चुराचान्दपुर (98.46 %),
- Tamenglong - तामेंलों (1,578),
- Senapati - सेनापति (608),
- Chandel - चान्देल (470),
- Imphal West - इम्फाल पश्चिम (408) and
