In accordance with Census 2011 there are 2,596,767 Dogri speakers in India covering 0,21 % of the country's total population.
Substantial proportion of Dogri Speakers is mainly concentrated in:
- Jammu and Kashmir - जम्मू और कश्मीर (96.80 %),
- Himachal Pradesh - हिमाचल प्रदेश (0.91 %),
- Punjab - पंजाब (0.70 %) and
- Delhi - दिल्ली (0.54 %).
Among the districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the highest proportion of Dogri speakers is noticed in:
- Samba - साम्बा (84.83 %),
- Kathua - कठुआ (89.92 %),
- Udhampur - ऊधमपुर (81.36 %) ,
- Jammu - जम्मू (70.85 %),
- Reasi - रियासी (45.76 %) and
- Ramban - रामबन (10.25 %).
Significant proportion of Dogri speakers in the districts outside Jammu & KaShmir are also noticed in Una - ऊना (1.01 %), Hamirpur - हमीरपुर (0.75 %), Kangra - कांगड़ा (0.71 %), Chamba - चम्बा (0.30 %), Kinnaur - किन्नौर (0.24 %), in Himachal Pradesh Lahul & Spiti - लाहुल और स्पिति (0.23 %), in Arunachal Pradesh Anjaw - अंजाव (1.16 %) and Tawang - तवांग (0.22 %), in Manipur in Tamenglong - तामेंलों (0.61 %) and in Punjab in Gurdaspur - गुरदासपुर (0.71 %).
