In accordance with Census 2011 there are 32,376 Deori speakers in India covering 0,003 % of the country's total population.
Deori speakers are mainly concentrated in:
- Assam - असम (27,441 with 0.09 % of the state's population),
- Arunachal Pradesh - अरुणाचल प्रदेश (4,844),
- Tripura - त्रिपुरा (1.35 %),
- Nagaland - नगालैंड (0.54 %) and
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (0.25 %).
Among the districts in Assam, the highest number of Deori speakers is noticed in:
- Lakhimpur - लखीमपुर (12,655),
- Dhemaji - धेमाजी (5,872),
- Tinsukia - तिनसुकिया (4,741),
- Jorhat - जोरहाट (2,276),
- Sonitpur - सोनितपुर (1,054),
- Kamrup Metropolitan - कामरूप महानगर (445) and
- Dibrugarh - डिब्रुगढ़ (151).
Outside Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Deori is not spoken significantly in any State/UT.
