In accordance with Census 2011 there are 1,482,929 Bodo speakers in India covering 0,12 % of the country's total population.
The substantial proportion of Bodo speakers is mainly concentrated in:
- Assam - असम (95.50 %, 4.54 % of the state's population),
- West Bengal - पश्चिम बंगाल (2.88 %),
- Nagaland - नगालैंड (0.50 %),
- Arunachal Pradesh - अरुणाचल प्रदेश (0.48 %) and
- Meghalaya - मेघालय (0.48 %).
Among the districts in Assam state, the highest proportion of Bodo speakers is noticed in:
- Chirang - चिरांग (37.83 %),
- Baksa - बाक्सा (31.85 %),
- Kokrajhar - कोकराझार (28.39 %),
- Udalguri - उदालगुड़ी (26.90 %),
- Sonitpur - सोनितपुर (8.39 %)
Significant proportion of Bodo SpeakerS outside Assam is available in East Siang - पूर्वी सियांग (1.70 %), Lohit - लोहित (0.98 %), Papum Pare - पापुम पारे (0.84 %), West Kameng - पश्चिमी कामेंग (0.68 %), in Nagaland in Dimapur - दीमापुर (1.25 %),and in Meghalaya in East Khasi Hills - ईस्ट खासी हिल्स (0.26 %).
