In accordance with Census 2011 there are 248,834 Adi speakers in India covering 0,02 % of the country's total population.
Adi speakers are available in:
- Arunachal Pradesh - अरुणाचल प्रदेश (96.46 %, 17.35 % of the state's population),
- Assam - असम (3,705),
- Haryana - हरयाणा (1,023 ),
- Rajasthan - राजस्थान (892 ) and
- Jharkhand - झारखंड (732 ).
Among the districts in Arunachal Pradesh, the highest proportion of Adi speakers is noticed in:
- West Siang - पश्चिमी सियांग (88,295 ),
- East Siang - पूर्वी सियांग (68,185 ),
- Upper Siang - अपर सियांग (26,095 ),
- Papum Pare - पापुम पारे (14,561 ),
- Lower Dibang Valley - लोवर दिवांग वैली (13,724 ),
- Upper Subansiri - अपर सुबानसिरी (12,475 )and
- Lohit - लोहित (11,247 ).
Significant number of Adi speakers outside Arunachal Pradesh are found in Tinsukia - तिनसुकिया (1,407), Dhemaji - धेमाजी (806), Kokrajhar - कोकराझार (370), and Sonitpur - सोनितपुर (344).
